2-1B  (#6555)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

Like others of its class, this roughly humanoid-appearing medical droid has surgical manipulation appendages, a medical diagnostic computer and a treatment analysis computer. For detailed patient status information, 2-1B relies on medical instrumentation or useful analysis droids like the FX-7.
The most useful characteristic of the 2-1B droids is the ease with which owners can update their programming and appendages. In addition to that, 2-1B droids can easily become experts in medical fields such as neurosurgery, podiatry, paediatrics, cybernetic limb replacement and alien biology. This makes the 2-1B a very sought after droid in markets across the Galaxy.

(110,153)

Part of the KPR security droid series, this small-tracked droid was developed to patrol programmed perimeters. Its relative small size and quiet nature makes it a difficult object to detect, making it perfect for monitoring areas with ease, and with its fitted holo-cam, the droid can record images and transmits them to a nearby command station.

Battle Droid  (#6557)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

Designed several years before the Clone Wars, the Battle Droid makes up the main infantry force of the Trade Federation. The droid's head was designed to imitate the shape of a Neimoidian's skull to strike fear in their enemies, while their bodies were modeled after the Geonosians. While earlier models were colour coded to show their role or rank, later models were coloured to blend in with their surroundings with only a numerical marking on the back of a comlink booster pack serving to distinguish one droid from another.

Battle Droids were designed for cheap, mass production and are relatively weak compared to other military droids. Their main armament includes an E-5 Droid Blaster and a few thermal grenades. Initial programming of the droids limited them to relatively simple tactics during combat such as swarming their enemies. However, during the Clone Wars, the tactical programming was improved and made more efficient overall, though the droids' reaction times during battle remain quite slow.

At first Battle Droids were managed by a central control mainframe, typically located in a starship or a well defended facility. This created a vulnerability, however, that led to severe failures after a mainframe was destroyed, so newer designs gave the droids autonomy in the case of such a catastrophic event. Battle Droids have also been coded to take a role as pilots in battle, which allows them to take control of tanks and barges if their pilot leaves the vehicle. However, they cannot operate any of the vessel's weaponry, making them relatively useless in combat operations.

DD-13 Medical Assistant  (#6558)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

The DD-13 Medical Assistant droid was originally manufactured by Ubrikkian Industries to be used aboard their medlifter transports. These vehicles proved less successful than first hoped, but this rugged droid found favour among the handlers of Republic contracts, who purchased it in large numbers to aid clone troops on the front lines of battle. Due to its origin and the number of amputations and surgeries these droids had to perform, they were nicknamed "Galactic Chopper Droids" by clone commanders. Nevertheless, despite misgivings about a medical droid made by a company known for heavy machinery, it saw extensive use and continued to remain in service until its contract was cancelled after the fall of the Republic.

The droid has a versatile design and is used to carry out or assist in a variety of medical procedures. The two upper arms of the DD-13 are modular and can be equipped with a number of tools or equipment to perform emergency surgeries with precision, especially those related to the installation and fine-tuning of cybernetic implants and prostheses. Additionally, the droid has internal storage capable of containing the medical supplies required for an emergency. The adjustable tripodal base allows the droid to move through rough terrain and its relatively hard casing provides it with substantial protection. The droid also has a cylindrical head containing a vocabulator, which the droid rarely uses, and a processor designed specifically for compiling and maintaining an extensive database of medical procedures. There are also a series of medical sensors calibrated to monitor a patient's vital signs.

After the cancellation of its contract with the Republic, Ubrikkian Industries sold the design for the DD-13 on the general market. Despite no longer catering exclusively to the galactic government, the droid still sees extensive use by various companies and governments. Even now its popularity shows no sign of abating and it can be found across the galaxy.

FX-7  (#6562)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

The FX-7 medical assistant is a cylindrical droid with a number of retractable appendages which give it many advantages over medical staff with only two appendages. A large number of sensors help the droid to multitask easily without error, regardless of the alien species being treated. The FX-7 is well suited to monitoring vitals of multiple beings at a time, which makes it a great asset to battlefield wards, maternity wards, or any other high population medical care areas.

The droid can often be seen aiding both live and droid doctors in operating rooms and triage centres. The combined sensors and appendages make the FX-7 ideal for this in many ways, as fewer medical staff are needed during procedures and patients in close proximity to one another can all be cared for by the droid simultaneously.

Though the standard FX-7 lacks a droid language vocoder, this piece can easily be added to the droid via an expansion slot. Appendages and programming directives are also easy to alter, making this droid highly sought after in most medical fields.

MD Medical Specialist  (#6563)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

The 2-1B surgical droid might be the most advanced surgical droid on the market but the MD series is the most common droid. It was introduced decades ago, the original Emdees are still in widespread use, and new models and units are produced every day. The MD unit has the same design as the 2-1B droid.

LIN-series Miner  (#6564)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

This slow droid was conceived as an assistant to the many miners working in the fringes of the known galaxy. Because of the fact that most of these worlds do not fall under an organised government yet, the rules and regulations concerning strip mining and environmental issues are not so strictly enforced. This has resulted in opportunists blowing up most of the rocks they can find and hoping to strike it lucky. However, as these adventurers are usually unhampered by any knowledge of explosives, a new market for a specialised droid was created.

The LIN has a retractable rotor arm that enables it to set and prime the explosive charges as needed, while its owner can relax at a secure location. For locomotion the LIN series droid uses two tracks, each controlled by a set of five wheels. The sensitive inner workings of the droid are covered by a protective dome made of reinforced durasteel. This greatly impedes on the operating speed of the model, but this was considered a fair trade-off by the design team considering the inhospitable environments where the droid would be working. It was considered that it would be under constant threat from falling debris and mining explosions.

T-Series Tactical Droid  (#6565)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

In terms of strategy and management, the T-series Tactical Droid was created as a more reliable alternative to the B1 Battle Droid and B2 Super Battle Droid. This was demonstrated in testing by their competent command of forces, from squads to entire fleets. As with most other military droids, they were designed to have varying paint schemes to signify rank.

Despite each unit bearing a moderately different voice and personality, the T-series has a reputation for always being bossy and arrogant when going about most tasks. This leads the droid to speak down to others as if they were inferior. It has even caused individual T-series to issue contradicting orders, yielding confusion in the droids performing the tasks and resulting in the Tactical Droid belittling their underlings further.

Regardless of any shortcomings that the droid may have, it has seen active duty with many military and para-military organizations throughout the galaxy. Often replacing more expensive military droids as cheaper, but intelligent alternatives.

R1 Astromech  (#6566)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

The first model in the R-series of astromech droids was also the first droid to target capital ships. Previously, owners had claimed that their crew worked better than "just another droid," but many were pleasantly surprised by the R1 droid.

To save on the already high R&D costs, the designers used the jet black body of discontinued Mark II labour drone models. The dense shielding on this body protects the droid from the highest levels of radiation and even pressure and temperature extremes, allowing the droid to operate under the most intense conditions.

The centre of the R1's design is the Intellex III computer brain, which contains an intensive catalog of hundreds of starship configurations. The R1 was also the first astromech to calculate navigational coordinates for a single hyper jump; previously it had to be done manually. This computer core was later used in the Cloakshape fighters due to its high efficiency. The R1 is so sophisticated that it can be left to pilot the capital ship on its own until it reached its destination, even if the pilot needs to enter another ship docked within.

While it is highly sophisticated, many owners complained about the R1's large, cumbersome height of 2m, their stubborn personality and their unreliable methods of movement. And although the droid is fairly expensive to manufacture due to its complex stabilizer system allowing it to operate even when a ship loses pressure, the R1's cobbled together design also gave the impression of unsophisticated technology, which initially drove away many potential buyers. The designers later addressed these issues when making the R2 series to make sure they did not make the same mistakes twice.

Pit Droid  (#6570)
Posted Y17 D221
(110,153)

The common pit droid, or DUM unit, is mass-produced throughout the galaxy. Their saucer shaped heads have two antenna used to communicate with other droids. They come with fairly substandard programming, which can be upgraded. Because of their low-grade programming and overzealous work ethics they can cause a considerable amount of damage in a short period of time unless they are supervised.
